To many Hoosiers, September is synonymous with the very special Hoosiers Outrun Cancer 5K event, which celebrates all of the amazing people who have faced cancer in our community. 100% of the proceeds raised from this event provide support services to anyone impacted by cancer (patients, survivors, families, caregivers, and friends).
To help with their crucial work, the Local Council of Women is proud to contribute to Hoosiers Outrun Cancer.
The Local Council of Women has been a long-time supporter of the South Central Indiana Kiwanis Balloon Fest, which is held to raise money for SCI Kiwanis projects that benefit children, such as Riley Children’s Hospital, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bloomington, and others.
In partnership with the Bloomington Health Foundation, the Local Council of Women contributed to the establishment of “Helping Bloomington Monroe (HBM)”, an online database of available health services in the area listing approximately 1800 free or reduced-cost programs such as medical care, low-cost (or free) help with medical bills, job training, counseling, assistance finding housing, and more.
The Nurse-Family Partnership aims to reduce infant mortality and break the cycle of poverty by partnering Nurse Family Partnership (NFP) nurses with first time, low-income mothers to help provide a good start for them and their babies, throughout the mother’s pregnancy and for the first two years of the baby’s life.
The Local Council of Women is honored to have helped contribute to their efforts by donating to the Nurse Family Partnership Diaper Dash, a 5K event to help raise funding for their cause.
In an effort to reduce homelessness and food insecurities, the Local Council of Women routinely donates to local homeless shelters.
We have a commitment to the community’s well-being. And, as an investment in hope and solidarity, the Local Council of Women funded suicide prevention signs located in places such as bridges and the tops of high garages, to aid Project STAY, which focuses on suicide prevention.
In cooperation with the Bloomington Health Foundation, LCW funded non-emergency medical transportation to provide a van and persons to staff it to assist people who can’t drive.
