Awarding Commitment

Investing in a healthier future.
Each year, to show our appreciation for their commitment to a healthier future, the Local Council of Women (LCW), in collaboration with the Bloomington Health Foundation (BHF), awards several financial scholarships to local students pursuing a career in health care who have been accepted into an accredited program of study.
This year, we will be awarding multiple scholarships totaling $8,500.
$2,500

We will be awarding one (1) $2,500 Cecilia Wahl health care scholarship sponsored and funded solely by the Local Council of Women through generous donations from our members and named after a former LCW president and member of the Bloomington Hospital Board who was very active in the community and her profession.

$6,000

We will be awarding four (4) $1,500 healthcare scholarships co-sponsored by the Local Council of Women (LCW) and the Bloomington Health Foundation (BHF).

Application Process

Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic and clinical performance, health-related employment, community service, and relevant personal experience(s). To be eligible, applicants must live in a county served by IU Health Bloomington Hospital (Brown, Daviess, Greene, Jackson, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Morgan, Orange, and Owen), and be enrolled in an accredited program of study in a healthcare field.
To be considered, applicants must submit all the following items:
  • A complete application including applicant’s name, mailing address, current phone number, and e-mail address.
  • Documentation of enrollment in their chosen accredited healthcare program.
  • Copy of grades to date (due to cost, this does not need to be official transcripts).
  • A personal statement describing your financial need, work and volunteer experience, goals for the future, and why you chose healthcare as your profession.
Scholarship applications must be submitted or postmarked by October 15, 2024.
In November, the LCW Scholarship Committee selects the winning applicants that have met all the necessary requirements. Scholarship recipients are notified two weeks prior to the presentation of their awards at the LCW Annual Meeting. For more information, please contact us.

“I am so very grateful for the Cecilia Wahl scholarship and for organizations that reach out to help health care students.”

Ann Maas
2016 Cecilia Wahl Scholarship Recipient

“It is such an honor to receive this scholarship! It will help not only with tuition, but also with gasoline expenses, as I commute daily from Bloomington to my classes in Indianapolis."

Victoria McClary
2017 Cecilia Wahl Scholarship Recipient

“My part-time job, along with the financial support from my husband, are still not enough to cover the out-of-state tuition I must currently pay. In asking you to invest in me, it is my sincere hope that after I receive my degree, I can turn around and repay that investment to the women of our community ten-fold."

Nicole Milne
2019 Cecilia Wahl Scholarship Recipient

“Because of people like you, I have been able to do what I have so far, for which I am extremely grateful.”
